Ahijah the Shilonite was a significant prophet during the reigns of Solomon and Jeroboam I. He was the divine messenger sent to announce the fracturing of the unified kingdom due to Solomon's idolatry. In a dramatic symbolic act, Ahijah met Jeroboam on the road, caught hold of the new garment he was wearing, and tore it into twelve pieces. He told Jeroboam in 1 Kings 11:31, 'Take thee ten pieces: for thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, Behold, I will rend the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give ten tribes to thee.'
