The Biblical Context
After the millennial reign and the final judgment, God will renew all creation. The apostle John writes, 'I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away' (Revelation 21:1). The curse that fell on creation at the fall will be lifted forever. The New Jerusalem, the holy city, will come down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. God Himself will dwell with His people: 'God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain' (Revelation 21:4). There will be no temple, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple. There will be no sun or moon, for the glory of God lightens the city.
