What Is the Fall of Jericho — Meaning Explained

Jericho was the first city Israel faced after crossing the Jordan into the Promised Land. Its walls were massive and its gates were securely barred. But the LORD gave Joshua a strange battle plan: march around the city once a day for six days, with seven priests blowing rams' horns before the ark. On the seventh day, march around seven times, then have all the people shout. Israel obeyed in faith. On the seventh circuit of the seventh day, the priests blew the trumpets, the people shouted with a great shout, and 'the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.' Only Rahab and her family were spared, as promised because she had hidden the Israelite spies. The fall of Jericho teaches that God's power, not military strategy, wins His battles. The weapons are obedience, faith, and praise — and the walls that oppose God's people cannot stand.
