What "What Is the Book of Revelation About?" Actually Means
The Book of Revelation (also called the Apocalypse) was written by the apostle John while exiled on the island of Patmos around AD 95. Its name comes from the Greek apokalypsis, meaning 'unveiling' or 'revelation.' The book opens with messages from Christ to seven churches in Asia Minor (chapters 2-3), then moves to a series of dramatic visions: the throne room of God (chapters 4-5), seven seal judgments (chapter 6), seven trumpet judgments (chapters 8-11), the rise of the Antichrist and false prophet (chapter 13), seven bowl judgments (chapter 16), the fall of Babylon (chapters 17-18), Christ's return and victory at Armageddon (chapter 19), the millennial reign and final judgment (chapter 20), and the glorious new heaven and new earth (chapters 21-22). While Christians interpret these visions differently (literally, symbolically, or a combination), the central message is unmistakable: Jesus Christ wins. Evil is defeated, God's people are vindicated, and God dwells with His redeemed forever. The book ends with an invitation: 'The Spirit and the bride say, Come' (Revelation 22:17).
