What "What Is Justification in the Bible?" Actually Means
Justification is a legal, courtroom term. It does not mean that God makes a sinner righteous in himself, but that God declares him righteous on the basis of Christ's finished work. The sinner's guilt is removed, and the perfect righteousness of Christ is credited to his account. Paul makes this crystal clear: 'Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus' (Romans 3:24). It is by grace, received through faith, and grounded in the blood of Christ. Justification is not earned by works, sacraments, or human merit.
