What Is Jerusalem — Meaning Explained

Jerusalem is the most significant city in the Bible, serving as the spiritual and political capital of Israel, the site of the Temple, and the location of the most pivotal events in redemptive history. Often called the 'City of David' or 'Zion,' it was chosen by God as the place where He would put His name. Psalm 122:6 exhorts believers to 'Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.' Throughout the Old Testament, the city was the center of Israel's worship, where the tribes went up to celebrate the feasts and where the presence of God dwelt in the Holy of Holies.
