What "What Is Communion (The Lord's Supper)?" Actually Means
At the Last Supper, Jesus took bread and wine and gave them new meaning: 'This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me' (Luke 22:19). Communion (also called the Lord's Supper or Eucharist) serves multiple purposes: remembering Christ's sacrifice, proclaiming His death until He returns (1 Corinthians 11:26), examining oneself (1 Corinthians 11:28), expressing unity with other believers (1 Corinthians 10:17), and spiritually nourishing faith. Christians differ on whether the bread and wine become Christ's body (Catholic), are spiritually present alongside the elements (Lutheran), or are purely symbolic (most Protestants). All agree it is a sacred act commanded by Christ that should be observed with reverence and self-examination.
