What "What Happened at the Tower of Babel?" Actually Means
After the flood, humanity settled in the plain of Shinar and began building a city with a tower 'whose top may reach unto heaven' (Genesis 11:4). Their stated goal was to make a name for themselves and avoid being scattered—directly contradicting God's command to fill the earth. God saw their unified rebellion and confused their language so they could no longer understand each other. This forced them to scatter across the earth, fulfilling God's original intent.
