What "What happened at the Tower of Babel?" Actually Means
After the flood, Noah's descendants settled in the plain of Shinar and began building a city with a tower reaching to heaven. Their goal was to 'make a name' for themselves and avoid being scattered — directly opposing God's command to fill the earth. God came down, observed their unified rebellion, and confused their language so they could no longer understand one another. This forced them to scatter across the earth, fulfilling God's original purpose. The event explains the origin of diverse languages and nations, and the name 'Babel' became associated with confusion.
