What Will Our Resurrection Bodies Be Like — Meaning Explained

First Corinthians 15:35-49 is the Bible's most detailed treatment. Paul uses the analogy of a seed: what is planted looks nothing like what grows, yet there is continuity. 'It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body' (vv.42-44). The resurrection body will bear the image of the heavenly, not the earthly (v.49). Jesus' resurrected body is the prototype — He ate food, could be touched, yet passed through locked doors and ascended to heaven. John writes, 'we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is' (1 John 3:2). Philippians 3:21 confirms Christ 'shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body.' Our future bodies will be free from pain, aging, disease, and death — perfectly suited for eternity in God's renewed creation.
