What "What Does the Bible Say About Self-Worth?" Actually Means
Human worth in Scripture is not earned through achievement but established by creation and redemption. Every person is made in God's image (Genesis 1:27), giving inherent dignity regardless of ability, status, or appearance. God told Israel: 'Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee' (Isaiah 43:4). Jesus demonstrated human worth by dying for sinners while they were still sinners (Romans 5:8). He said believers are worth more than many sparrows (Matthew 10:31) and that even the hairs of their head are numbered. Psalm 139 describes God's intimate involvement in forming each person. True self-worth is neither pride (thinking too highly of ourselves) nor self-hatred (denying God's handiwork) but a humble recognition that we are deeply valued by our Creator and Redeemer.
