What "What Does the Bible Say About Persecution?" Actually Means
Jesus plainly warned: 'If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you' (John 15:18). He called those persecuted for righteousness 'blessed' and promised great reward in heaven (Matthew 5:10-12). Paul affirmed that 'all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution' (2 Timothy 3:12). The early church experienced tremendous persecution yet grew exponentially. Stephen became the first martyr (Acts 7). Hebrews 11 chronicles heroes of faith who endured suffering. Believers are called to respond to persecution not with retaliation but with love, prayer, and faithfulness (Romans 12:14). The blood of the martyrs has indeed been the seed of the church throughout history.
