The Bible commands believers not to forsake assembling together, as corporate worship, accountability, and fellowship are essential for spiritual growth.
"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." — Hebrews 10:25 (KJV)
What "Why Is Church Attendance Important?" Actually Means
Hebrews 10:25 clearly instructs: 'Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.' The early church 'continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers' (Acts 2:42). Church provides what individual devotion cannot: corporate worship, the preaching of God's Word, the sacraments, mutual accountability, spiritual gifts functioning together (1 Corinthians 12), bearing one another's burdens (Galatians 6:2), and encouragement in faith. Christianity is inherently communal—the 'one another' commands (over 50 in the NT) require a gathered community. While church is imperfect, it is Christ's body on earth, and believers are members of it (Ephesians 5:25-27).
