What "What Is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?" Actually Means
The baptism of the Holy Spirit was prophesied by John the Baptist (Matthew 3:11) and promised by Jesus (Acts 1:5). At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit fell upon believers (Acts 2:1-4), empowering them with boldness and spiritual gifts. Paul teaches that all believers are baptized by one Spirit into one body (1 Corinthians 12:13). While Christians agree on the Spirit's essential role, they differ on whether Spirit baptism is a one-time event at conversion or a subsequent experience. What Scripture clearly teaches is that the Holy Spirit empowers believers for witness (Acts 1:8), produces spiritual fruit (Galatians 5:22-23), and distributes gifts for building up the church (1 Corinthians 12:7-11).
