"For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace." — Romans 6:14 (KJV)
The Biblical Context
Stopping a sin pattern begins with the right diagnosis. Romans 7 admits the struggle; Romans 6 announces the cure. Sin's legal dominion ended at the cross for every believer (Romans 6:14). What remains is the daily reckoning — counting that truth as true and refusing to obey sin as if it were still master (Romans 6:11–13).\n\nThe positive command is to walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16). Sin is not defeated by sheer willpower but by replacement: where the Spirit fills, the flesh loses room. Renew the mind (Romans 12:2) by saturating thought with Scripture, prayer, and the fellowship of believers. Confess quickly (1 John 1:9) — unconfessed sin gathers weight and shame.\n\nPractically, identify the triggers, remove what fuels them, and build accountability. Proverbs 28:13 promises mercy to those who confess and forsake sin. Restoration may take time, but progress is the believer's normal trajectory: 'changed into the same image from glory to glory' (2 Corinthians 3:18).
