What "Does God Answer Prayer?" Actually Means
The Bible is filled with promises about answered prayer. Jesus declared, 'Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you' (Matthew 7:7). 1 John 5:14-15 promises that when we pray according to God's will, 'he heareth us.' Jeremiah 33:3 invites, 'Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.' However, God answers prayer in three ways: yes, no, and wait. Sometimes His 'no' is an act of love — Paul prayed three times for his 'thorn in the flesh' to be removed, and God said, 'My grace is sufficient for thee' (2 Corinthians 12:8-9). Certain conditions affect prayer: unconfessed sin (Psalm 66:18), wrong motives (James 4:3), doubt (James 1:6-7), and an unwillingness to forgive others (Mark 11:25-26) can hinder prayers. But for the believer walking in faith and obedience, God's ears are always open (1 Peter 3:12). The key is trusting God's wisdom above our own desires.
