Can You Lose Your Salvation — Meaning Explained

This question has been debated throughout church history, but several key passages speak to the security of the believer. Jesus declared, 'I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand' (John 10:28). Romans 8:38-39 lists everything that might separate us from God's love — and concludes that nothing can. Ephesians 1:13-14 says believers are 'sealed with that holy Spirit of promise' as a guarantee of their inheritance. Philippians 1:6 assures that 'he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.' If salvation depended on human performance, no one could be saved — but it rests on God's faithfulness. That said, the Bible also warns against false assurance — those who show no fruit of salvation may never have been genuinely saved (Matthew 7:21-23, 1 John 2:19). Eternal security is not a license to sin but a motivation for grateful obedience.
