The King James Bible holds 1,189 chapters across 66 books — 929 in the Old Testament and 260 in the New Testament. Divide those chapters by the number of days you actually plan to read and you get your daily target. These are the most common paces:

Most people who abandon a one-year plan stop somewhere in Leviticus or the minor prophets. Pairing an Old Testament portion with a New Testament chapter each day keeps momentum, and building in one or two rest days a week gives you room to catch up instead of quitting.
